CHINGA EYES SILVERWARE, CHIPOLLOPOLO RECALL AT CAPS UNITED
Zambian defender Chitoshi Chinga says his consistent performances for Zimbabwean giants CAPS United are strengthening his hopes of earning a recall to the Chipolopolo squad.
Chinga, who is in his second season in the Zimbabwean top flight, has established himself as an important member of the CAPS United setup and says his focus remains on helping the club compete for silverware.
The defender described his experience in Zimbabwe as exciting and intense, noting that playing abroad comes with the added responsibility of representing both his club and Zambia.
“Playing in the Zimbabwean Top Flight League feels exciting, incredibly intense. You are representing not just yourself, but also your club and your country,” Chinga said.
He said adapting to the physicality and demands of Zimbabwean football was initially challenging, particularly when facing experienced attackers.
“The biggest challenge I faced was adaptability and physicality. Quite different from Zambia, but it was a bit demanding,” he said, adding that there is little room for mistakes for a defender.
Chinga also highlighted his favourite moment so far in Zimbabwe, recalling CAPS United’s victory over Highlanders in his first appearance for the club.
The defender says CAPS United remain in contention in both the Chibuku Cup and Monomutapa Cup, having progressed to the latter’s quarter-finals.
With the league also approaching its conclusion, Chinga says the club is determined to push for trophies.
“We are pushing hard at least to achieve as many goals as we achieved. If possible, we get a double of the cup even better,” he said.
On his national team ambitions, Chinga believes performances at club level will ultimately determine whether he receives another Chipolopolo call-up.
“It starts from the club level. For you to be recognised at the national team, your performance has to speak for you from the club level,” he said.
He also hopes to continue challenging himself by eventually moving to a higher-level league, while encouraging young Zambian defenders to combine talent with discipline, hard work and self-belief.
