Chisanga Chases Zambia Dream While Building Life Beyond Football

For US-born attacking midfielder Sampa Sascha Chisanga, the dream is clear, to one day represent Zambia at international level.

Currently playing for Konkola Blades Queens in Chililabombwe, Chisanga has spent 18 years honing her craft, having started playing football at the age of six. Inspired by fellow American-born player of Zambian descent Inonge Kaloustian, who made the move to feature in the ZPL Women Super League, Chisanga followed a similar path in pursuit of her ambition.

“I want to represent my country and play in the UK for Chelsea,” she says of her short-term goals.

Born on June 13, Chisanga describes herself as ambitious, goal-oriented and kind, qualities she believes have helped her navigate the demands of elite sport and academics. She holds a degree in Health Science and Religious Studies, a milestone she achieved while balancing training sessions, matches and travel commitments.

“Training, matches and travel often overlapped with classes and deadlines, which was demanding,” she explains. “It required discipline and organisation, but it helped me master time management.”

Before joining Konkola Blades Queens, she had short stints with Red Arrows Women and ZISD FC in the top flight.

Looking ahead, Chisanga plans to obtain a Class A coaching licence in the UK and eventually coach in America, revealing she does not intend to play beyond the age of 36.

Her message to young girls is simple: pursue both education and football.

“Football can open doors, but education gives you something to stand on. When you invest in both, you give yourself more options for the future.”
