Copper Queens to Face Egypt First, Nigeria Next at WAFCON

Zambia’s Copper Queens will begin their campaign at this year’s CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a Group C opener against Egypt before taking on 10-time champions Nigeria in their second match.

According to the official fixtures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Copper Queens will face Egypt on March 18 at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Morocco, a match that will set the tone for Zambia’s Group C campaign.

Zambia will then lock horns with record holders Nigeria on March 21, also at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, in what is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the group stage. The Super Falcons remain the most successful side in the competition’s history, having lifted the trophy on ten occasions.

The Copper Queens will wrap up their group-stage matches against Malawi on March 24, with that fixture scheduled to take place at CS Fes.

Group C also features Nigeria opening their campaign against Malawi, while Egypt and Malawi will meet in the second round of matches before Nigeria and Egypt clash in the final round.

The tournament serves as a World Cup qualifier for the 2027 edition to be hosted by Brazil.
