FAZ President Urges Patience, Trust in Process Ahead of Morocco Clash

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has sent a strong message of unity, patience and confidence to the Chipolopolo ahead of tonight’s decisive Africa Cup of Nations Group A clash against hosts Morocco, urging the nation to trust the rebuilding process and the young technical bench.

Mweemba reaffirmed his belief in the national team, insisting that visible signs of positive transformation are already taking shape.

“We trust our young technical bench and the signs for positive transformation are all unequivocal and visible to see. Let us all be patient and trust the process,” Mweemba said.

The FAZ president acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the match but dismissed suggestions that Zambia are under pressure, arguing instead that the burden rests with the hosts.

“Many people expect Morocco to massacre Zambia, but we are not under pressure. The pressure is on Morocco, who are hosting this AFCON,” he stated.

Mweemba encouraged the Chipolopolo players to approach the game with confidence, discipline and unity, urging them to respect but not fear their opponents.

“Enjoy the game and play with discipline, tenacity, character and unity of purpose. Respect the opponent, of course, but do not fear them. Football is just a game after all,” he told the players, adding that he fully trusts their ability and capacity.

He also appealed to Zambians to rally behind the team and avoid placing unnecessary pressure on the players, regardless of the outcome of the match.

“I humbly request the whole country to give unwavering support to the boys. Let us encourage them to fight with character, pride and conviction. We must win, draw or lose as a team, as one people—no finger pointing or accusations,” Mweemba said.

Highlighting the long-term vision for Zambian football, the FAZ president stressed that rebuilding takes time and called for patience from all stakeholders.

“Rome was not built in a day, and a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. These are the cornerstones of our rebuilding blocks,” he noted.

Mweemba further called for unity within the football family, acknowledging that differing opinions are part of the game but should never divide the nation.

“Differences of opinion will always be there because football is full of emotions. But there is more that must unite us than divide us,” he said.

Drawing inspiration from scripture, Mweemba urged Zambians to remain grounded in faith, hope and love as the team continues its journey.

“Everything under the sun has seasons. We must remain full of faith, hope and love. This team is headed in the right direction,” he concluded.

Zambia face Morocco later tonight in their final Group A fixture, with qualification to the knockout stages still within reach.
