LESOTHO, KENYA ARRIVE FOR ZAMBIA FOUR NATIONS TOURNAMENT

The Lesotho and Kenya women’s teams have arrived in Zambia ahead of the Four Nations Tournament set to kick off this weekend at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Lesotho became the first foreign team to touch down in Zambia, with the Mehalalitoe arriving at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport at 13:00 aboard an Airlink flight.

The team was welcomed by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Head of Competitions Loreen Mulomba as preparations intensified for the regional tournament.

An hour later, the Kenya Women’s National Team, popularly known as the Harambee Starlets, also arrived in the country. The Kenyan delegation landed at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka at 14:00 aboard Kenya Airways before proceeding to Ndola for the competition.

The Harambee Starlets were received by FAZ Deputy General Secretary Iva Lengwe and FAZ Head of Communications and Media Nkweto Tembwe.

The Four Nations Tournament will feature hosts Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, with matches scheduled to begin on Saturday.

The competition forms part of preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with both Zambia and Kenya using the tournament to fine-tune their squads ahead of the continental showpiece that kicks off next month.

The Copper Queens will face Kenya in the opening fixture on Saturday, June 6, at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, while Zimbabwe and Lesotho are also expected to battle for honours in the tournament.

The tournament is expected to provide valuable competitive match practice for the participating teams as they seek to sharpen their preparations and assess their readiness ahead of future international assignments.

For Zambia, the tournament represents an important part of the Copper Queens’ build-up programme as they target a strong performance at WAFCON and continue their rise in women’s football on the continent.
