Mutapa: Power Dynamos Stronger Now Than During Title-Winning Campaign

Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa insists his side is stronger and more balanced than the team that won the league, as the Kitwe giants prepare for tomorrow’s away clash against Mutondo Stars at Arthur Davies Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Mutapa said the players now better understand what it takes to compete at the highest level, stressing that belief and consistency will be crucial if Power Dynamos are to retain the title.

“We are a much better side now than we were when we won the league,” Mutapa said. “If we have to retain the league, we have to show that consistency again and believe that we are a better team. We are more balanced and the players are able to compete.”

Power Dynamos currently sit third on the league table with 26 points from 14 matches, firmly in contention as the title race begins to take shape. Mutapa highlighted that starting the new year with a victory is vital as the club keeps its focus on the top of the standings.

“Every game will be important in pursuit of retaining the league. Starting the year with a win helps us build momentum and also assess where we are on the table,” he said.

The coach pointed to last season’s second-half consistency as the foundation of their championship triumph, noting that replicating that run will be key in the current campaign.

“The key to winning the league was the consistency we showed, especially in the second half of the season,” he added.

In contrast, hosts Mutondo Stars are currently struggling near the bottom end of the table, sitting 16th with 11 points from 14 games, but Mutapa warned against complacency, insisting these are matches his side must approach with full focus.

Mutapa also confirmed that Power Dynamos have a full squad available, despite a congested fixture list that includes league and continental assignments. He noted that squad rotation will be necessary to maintain balance and performance levels.

Power Dynamos head into the fixture buoyed by their historic achievements last season. As the title defence continues, Mutapa’s message is clear: the team is stronger now—but consistency will once again decide their fate.
