Orlando Pride explain Grace Chanda’s departure as Zambian midfielder joins Querétaro
NWSL side Orlando Pride have explained the circumstances surrounding the departure of Zambian midfielder Grace Chanda, who has now been unveiled as a new player for Mexican club Querétaro.
In a statement, the Pride confirmed that the club and Chanda had mutually agreed to part ways, bringing an end to her short stint in the United States.
“The Orlando Pride and midfielder Grace Chanda have mutually agreed to part ways, the Club announced today,” the statement read. “Chanda joined the Pride midway through the 2024 season and made seven appearances for Orlando across all competitions.”
Orlando Pride head coach Seb Hines paid tribute to the Copper Queens midfielder, praising both her character and professionalism during her time at the club.
“Grace is an exceptional athlete and person, and we are grateful for the contributions she made during her time with the Pride,” said Hines. “After discussions with Grace, we mutually agreed that this is the best step for her career and personal goals. We wish her nothing but success in her next chapter and look forward to seeing her continue to grow both on and off the field.”
Chanda signed for Orlando Pride in May 2024 ahead of her participation at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with Zambia. However, her debut in the National Women’s Soccer League was delayed after she suffered an injury during the tournament.
She eventually made her Pride debut on March 19, 2025, coming on as a second-half substitute against the Washington Spirit during the 2025 NWSL season.
Following her departure from Orlando, the 27-year-old has now taken the next step in her career by joining Querétaro in Mexico, where she is expected to play a key role as she seeks regular game time and a fresh start.
