Sichone Admits Mistakes as Zambia Exit AFCON After 3–0 Defeat to Morocco

Zambia National Team coach Moses Sichone has admitted that costly errors and a below-par performance contributed to Chipolopolo’s 3–0 defeat to Morocco, a result that confirmed Zambia’s exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Sichone said the performance fell short of the levels Zambia had shown earlier in the competition.

“We did not show what we showed in the other games. Morocco capitalized on the silly mistakes we made, and this is the outcome. We need to excuse ourselves over the performance,” he said.

The defeat means Zambia bow out at the group stage after failing to register a win. Sichone described the early exit as painful but urged the nation to look ahead with a long-term mindset.

“It is hard to leave the competition but there is nothing you can do. We can only wish the teams that have qualified congratulations, but for us we have to go home and make plans on how we are going to build this team,” he added.

Despite the disappointment, the coach expressed belief in the squad’s future, stressing the importance of patience and investment in football development.

“It is never too late. Football is about investing and giving it time. For sure, Zambia needs a bit of time. Come next AFCON, we will definitely see a different team,” Sichone said.

Zambia now turn their attention to rebuilding and preparations for upcoming international fixtures, with hopes of returning stronger at the next continental tournament.
