WAFCON Morocco 2026 Final Draw Set for Rabat as CAF Confirms Women’s Awards
The Final Draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 will be held in Rabat on Thursday, 15 January 2025, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has confirmed.
The draw ceremony will take place at 14h00 local time (13h00 GMT / 15h00 Cairo) and will also coincide with the announcement of winners in key CAF Women’s football awards categories.
This draw marks a historic milestone for the competition, as WAFCON will feature an expanded 16-team format for the first time. Hosts Morocco will be joined by Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
On the same day, CAF will announce the winners of three Women’s Awards categories: CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year and CAF Women’s Club of the Year.
The awards were initially scheduled to be presented during the CAF Awards 2025 but were postponed after the Women’s football season remained incomplete due to the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League. Earlier this week, CAF officially re-opened the voting process for the affected categories.
CAF has clarified that it does not take part in the voting but plays an oversight and coordination role to ensure transparency and fairness.
Voting for the CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year involves media representatives as well as captains and coaches participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League. The CAF Women’s Coach of the Year is determined through votes from the media and Member Association coaches, while the CAF Women’s Club of the Year is voted for by the media alongside the CAF Women’s Technical Committee.
The draw and awards ceremony are expected to set the tone for what promises to be a landmark edition of Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.
