France 2-0 Morocco: Les Bleus Reach World Cup Semi-Finals After Dominant Display

France booked their place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals with a convincing 2-0 victory over Morocco in a thrilling quarter-final encounter.
The reigning champions controlled large spells of the match and produced a clinical attacking performance, while Morocco fought bravely but struggled to convert their limited chances against a disciplined French defence.
Early Pressure From France
France started strongly and almost took the lead in the opening minutes. In the 4th minute, Dayot Upamecano met a brilliant cross with a low header, but Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced a stunning save to keep the game level.
The biggest moment of the first half came in the 25th minute when Morocco defender Noussair Mazraoui was penalised for a foul inside the box. After a VAR review, referee Facundo Tello confirmed a penalty for France.
However, Kylian Mbappé’s spot-kick was brilliantly anticipated by Bounou, who dived the right way to deny the French superstar.
France continued to push, with Désiré Doué forcing another excellent save from Bounou in the 35th minute, while Lucas Digne struck the crossbar with a powerful long-range effort just before half-time.
Mbappé Breaks the Deadlock
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 60th minute.
Kylian Mbappé collected the ball outside the box and fired a low strike that found the bottom corner, giving France a deserved 1-0 lead.
Morocco attempted to respond, making attacking changes, but France’s midfield and defence remained composed.
Dembélé Doubles the Lead
France put the game beyond Morocco in the 66th minute.
Mbappé turned provider, setting up Ousmane Dembélé on the edge of the box. Despite not making perfect contact, Dembélé’s effort found its way into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
The goal gave France breathing space and allowed Didier Deschamps’ side to manage the remainder of the match.
Late Changes and Morocco’s Fight
Morocco continued searching for a way back into the game. Soufiane Rahimi, Sofyan Amrabat, Gessime Yassine, Zakaria El Ouahdi and Amine Sbai were introduced as coach Mohamed Ouahbi looked for a comeback.
France also made changes, with Warren Zaïre-Emery, Bradley Barcola, Malo Gusto and Jean-Philippe Mateta entering the match.
Morocco came close through Neil El Aynaoui, whose header from Achraf Hakimi’s corner went just wide in the 84th minute.
France nearly added a third late on, but Bounou denied Mateta with another excellent save in the 90th minute.
Player of the Match: Kylian Mbappé
Mbappé was decisive once again, scoring France’s opener and creating the second goal for Dembélé. Despite missing a penalty, the French captain delivered when it mattered most.
